Getting to & Staying in Castlemaine

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Castlemaine and surrounding towns is located only 120 km (1.5 hours) from Melbourne and is an area well connected by public transport. To get to the main hub of Castlemaine, you can take a VLine train from Melbourne which takes just 1.5 hrs and operates several times a day, 7 days a week.

We encourage Gold Sounds delegates to travel to Castlemaine via Public Transport. Use the Public Transport Journey Planner website for the quickest and best route. Bendigo Airport Service operates a shuttle service between Castlemaine and Melbourne Airport several times a day.

Arriving by Rail

With regular departures from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station, Castlemaine is just over an hour from Melbourne by train. Public transport requires you to use a Myki card, these can be purchased online at www.ptv.vic.gov.au or you can pick one up at Southern Cross Station. Once you get here, Castlemaine Railway Station is just a short stroll from the main CBD of Castlemaine.

TRAVELLING BY CAR

Getting to Castlemaine and surrounds by car is easy-peasy. Heading out of Melbourne take Citylink towards Melbourne Airport Tullamarine then follow the Calder Freeway (M79) for about an hour until you get to the Pyrenees Highway and voila! Travel through lovely Chewton (past the excellent Red Hill Hotel!) into Castlemaine.

From Bendigo head south on the Midland Highway (this become the Calder Freeway) for about half an hour and you'll arrive in Castlemaine.

Please take caution to drive slowly and watch for wildlife such as kangaroos when driving on country roads.
